Let it be recorded that the heart, though smaller than a fist, has ruined armies more efficiently than winter, and my horse carried me out of ENVY three days ago, with no escort and no banner but my own; I had thought leaving would feel like a grand historical gesture, but mostly it felt like mud drying on my boots.
At the first rise beyond the gate, the saddle leather creaked and the keep vanished behind the rain, a small detail, perhaps, but forgotten details govern great events [1]. You may laugh, yet that quiet road steadied me more than any oath.
I kept thinking of SKY, naturally, because desire is an undisciplined scribe, and wondered whether boldness looks more beautiful when it rides alone. I shall not make a proclamation of it; I have become quieter about who deserves my banners, though my heart remains embarrassingly loud.
