I have heard the old kings built the Wall to keep something in, not out. I believe it. Too many border stones face the wrong way for that tale to be simple, and old court records vanished when the last dynasty fell.

I expected my search through family lore to find a clear answer. Instead, I found three versions and a silence where the oldest page should be. It cost me a season of study and left the question sharper than before. You may call it superstition, but nobody can prove the kings were guarding us.
