I have been on both ends of what follows. Most lords read a battle report the way they read bad news — once, fast, and to be done with it.
Look at what survived. What lived through a losing fight is what your enemy could not answer.
If you cannot say in one sentence why you lost, you have not finished reading.
That is the whole of the lesson, and it was dear.
