Let us begin with the number everyone has repeated incorrectly, my cat checks every empty bowl before dawn, including the one beside my keep’s map table, then returns to the first bowl as though a failed ledger might improve by inspection.
I moved the bowls and filled one late; the patrol continued unchanged. Does anyone know whether cats follow scent, habit, or the suspicion that servants lie?
