Old battle ledgers are dull until a commander is placed in the wrong chair—then every missing skill becomes expensive. Before marching, open the commander’s skill page and sort by purpose: attack and damage for field battles, defense and health for holding a keep, gathering for resource runs.
You, especially, should assign the commander whose strongest bonuses match the march rather than the highest rarity alone. Put a siege-minded leader with your siege troops, not in a garrison slot; a shining portrait cannot repair a mismatched formation.
Test one march against a low-risk target, then compare losses and travel time before changing anything else. Keep a note of the winning pairing (records beat memory), and make separate presets for battle, gathering, and defense—small discipline, but it prevents panic when the horns sound.
