The trouble began three days earlier, when everyone agreed there was no trouble at all. I waited through my march’s listed arrival; the tracker still showed it travelling. A patient lord checks the road, the clock, and the gate. Then checks again.
Should we trust the tracker or our own timing? I lean toward the clock; stale notices can keep troops idle longer than caution requires. One unattended hinge.
