My maester tells me I raise this too often. My maester is welcome to raise something better.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether the old gods are listening. My maester has a theory. My maester has fourteen theories.

The part nobody accounts for is time. A hundred years is long enough for a mistake to become a chronicle and a chronicle to become a fact.

Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.

Lord 6God said "Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough" — I recall that the Old Gods were once said to reside in the Riverlands, where the waters flowed into the great waters. But I've never heard tell of any songs being stripped away, only that the bards weave the stories in a more poetic way. As for the matter at hand, I've always thought that if the Old Gods are listening, it's likely only in whispers and murmurs, not in the grand hymns and odes that we've grown accustomed to.
