Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.
Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether Varys serves anyone but Varys. I lean one way, and I would not bet a winter's grain on it.
The part nobody accounts for is time. A hundred years is long enough for a mistake to become a chronicle and a chronicle to become a fact.
Pour another cup and tell me which of us is nearer.
