Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

The question, put plainly: whether the stone men are a cure waiting or a curse spreading. I used to be sure of it. I am older now, and the sureness has worn thin.

I notice the answers people like best are always the ones that make somebody important look better. That is not proof of anything, but it is a pattern.

If it turns out I was wrong, I will say so in front of everyone.
