Settle an argument — whether Coldhands is who everyone says he is

This will not help anybody take a seat, and I am posting it anyway. Winter nights are long and the board is quiet.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether Coldhands is who everyone says he is. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

It matters less than the harvest, and I will still be arguing about it at midwinter.
