Nobody has ever explained whether the old gods are listening

Half the hall has an opinion here and the other half pretends not to. I would rather hear from both.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether the old gods are listening. I have changed my mind on this twice, which is more than most will admit to.

There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.

Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.
