The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. I lost Stonewatch with three mules, forty-two men, and a bell I could not carry. A keep is only worth its carts; walls buy time, not food.
I have tried sending leaner marches, but still cannot tell when a smaller garrison saves stores without inviting a siege. What cart reserve do you trust before you ride?
