Before you log off, keep food in storage and recall troops from exposed marches; I learned the hard way that an empty keep and a stranded force cost more than a cautious retreat. You can do both before you leave.
I have tried keeping a reserve and recalling every exposed troop, but that does not tell me when offline upkeep is taken. Does stored food still cover troop upkeep while I am away?
