Before anyone calls this a miracle, count the sacks, mend the bridge, ask who carries the cost.
The words “devoted fan” catch in my mind, because they describe a bond before they describe a skill. A ruler needs a voice that can carry his words plainly; choosing someone who is loyal may make that work easier, or may leave the audience measuring every word against the loyalty behind it. I cannot tell which from this report.
In a watch-house, a trusted messenger is worth a great deal when the road is bad. But trust does not mend the road, and it does not prove the message is sound. The office is a hinge between the ruler and everyone listening; it may turn smoothly, yet the hinge still needs inspection. And there is a cost when a public voice is understood chiefly through its closeness to the person who chose it. Who pays for that? Who carries it?
I remember the granary ledger looking full while the bins were not. A fine appointment is not the same as a steady account of what is being said. Not yet.
