Opening post by Lord Halys Redfort · #1
The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. Before the last march, load food, bandages, and spare tack onto carts; leave stone and timber. Count loads against mouths, not pride. A full cart that cannot clear the gate is a wall with wheels.
Choose the road before the enemy chooses it for you. Tap it twice on the map, then mark the ford and the ditch where a loaded cart will bog. Send a light rider ahead; keep one day’s ration on each man, not buried under sacks.
When the order comes, move the wounded first, then stores, then the garrison. No fire, no argument over a chest. Have you checked which axle will fail in mud? I left Stonewatch with three mules and forty-two men; the chapel bell stayed.
