Readers, Moat Cailin’s ruin predates the First Men

I have heard the old claim that the Children raised Moat Cailin, and I doubt even that tale reaches its beginning. The stones seem older than the names laid over them. I take the side that the ruin was already there when the First Men arrived; nobody can prove it.

I went expecting the marsh to make the place look smaller. Instead, the broken towers seemed to belong to a deeper age than any story I knew. I stayed until the light failed and lost the day’s road home.
