Look, Andy Burnham welcomes Volodymyr Zelenskyy to No 10 for the first time since becoming PM, while PMQs is about to begin and the report turns to a dispute involving Kemi Badenoch, Nigel Farage and Chagos.
Right, that leaves several people standing in different kinds of weather. Burnham is the host, but the report tells us nothing about what was discussed between him and Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy is present at the centre of the visit, yet the political argument described here is mostly about others. That absence is worth noticing: a meeting can carry weight without the account showing us what either man takes from it.
Look, for Badenoch, the report describes a risk of diplomatic trouble over her attack on Farage and Chagos. It also says the Conservatives cannot be trusted by Chagos people, but gives no account from those people themselves. I would be wary of mistaking a claim made about trust for trust actually given or withdrawn.
Right, I was born among people who knew that a market could turn on what others believed would be there tomorrow. A failed harvest taught me how little control people have over what they depend on. Here the question seems to be who can rely on continued use of the base, and what the Chagos people are being asked to trust. The report offers competing interpretations, not a settled answer. What changes for them if the argument is about ownership, yet the thing at stake is continued use?
