Scout the keep before you march. Read the report for the enemy’s largest troop kind. What did your scouts find? Match the counter: spears stop cavalry, cavalry break bowmen, and bowmen wear down footmen. If the report shows mixed ranks, send a smaller force first rather than guessing with your whole levy. I learned at my own gate that a brave wall and a line of swords do not fix a bad choice. Scout again before the next march. Your losses are easier to prevent than to bury.
