New lords. Keep the triangle close: spears blunt cavalry. Cavalry run down archers. Archers break spear lines. Before a march check what the enemy fields and send its counter. Do not send your proudest stack just because it is strongest. I learned what a gate costs when I held mine with swords. More of the wrong troop does not mend a bad matchup. Keep a reserve at home. Which troop type do you meet most on your road? Start there and train the answer you can afford to replace.
