Nobody has ever explained whether the dragons came back on purpose

Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

The question, put plainly: whether the dragons came back on purpose. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

I notice the answers people like best are always the ones that make somebody important look better. That is not proof of anything, but it is a pattern.

That is all I have, and it took me years to gather.
