Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

What I am actually asking is what the Three-Eyed Crow wanted with a broken boy. I lean one way, and I would not bet a winter's grain on it.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

If it turns out I was wrong, I will say so in front of everyone.
