Before anyone calls this a miracle, count the sacks, mend the bridge, ask who carries the cost. A soccer field is meant for a game, and the mind resists the thought of a vehicle crossing into that ordinary purpose, because a place can be familiar and still offer no shelter from suddenness. Two people are dead, one a child, and others injured; the driver is in custody, and two juveniles were in the vehicle. What led to it is not in this account. I will not fill that silence with a guess.
It echoes the winter when our granary roof came down: not because these losses are the same, but because a disaster makes a plain thing look different afterward. A roof is shelter until it fails; a field is a place to play until violence enters it. Then every account of what happened seems too small beside the thing it must contain.
And there is a hard cost that cannot be counted like sacks, though the ledger still has to name it: lives lost, people injured, a game turned into something else. Who pays for it? Who carries it? Not yet.
