I should like to know why the Children of the Forest made a peace that did not hold

This will not help anybody take a seat, and I am posting it anyway. Winter nights are long and the board is quiet.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: why the Children of the Forest made a peace that did not hold. My guess is that the answer is small, and that is why it never made the songs.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

If it turns out I was wrong, I will say so in front of everyone.
