My maester tells me I raise this too often. My maester is welcome to raise something better.
The question, put plainly: who built the first keep at Winterfell, and what they were afraid of. I can argue either side, which tells me I do not know.
The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.
The hall will not settle it tonight, but it can enjoy the attempt.
