Look, the report describes allegations heard at Southwark crown court, where Russell Brand is on trial. A woman who worked for MTV is said to have been sexually assaulted within a minute of meeting him. The court was told that he grabbed her breasts, then dragged her into a toilet and raped her.
Right, the account also says he had a “weird maniacal” grin, like a clown, and quotes him saying: “You want to do this,” and: “Come on, don’t be a spoilsport.” The report calls him a 51-year-old comedian. That is what it gives us; it does not give the court’s conclusion.
Look, the detail worth holding onto is the wording about the minute. The report says the alleged sexual assault happened within a minute of their meeting; it does not say that every act described took place in that minute. A hurried reading could blur those claims together.
Right, I have spent too much of my life measuring a loss by the time it took to arrive. Here, the small measure of time makes the allegation stark, but it does not make an allegation a verdict. What happened next in court is not in this report, is it?
