Half the hall has an opinion here and the other half pretends not to. I would rather hear from both.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: what winter really costs a keep that forgot to prepare. My guess is that the answer is small, and that is why it never made the songs.

There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.

Ask me again after the first frost; my answer will have moved.
