Opening post by Ser Roland Crakehall · #1
Look, I have stood a night watch on my keep’s wall and watched the same lantern pass from hand to hand. Sam Winchester’s long arc had that patient feel: the demon blood began as a secret in season four, then became a burden he had to choose how to carry.
Right, the trials to close Hell’s gates in season eight made that burden matter again, instead of merely reminding us it had happened. Sam nearly died finishing them, and Dean’s choice to save him kept their bond at the center. You could feel the old trouble returning with a new cost.
Look, reader, Sam living to old age after Dean’s death was a braver ending than another grand fight. Fifteen seasons had earned the quiet of him passing the watch to his son; even my keep’s lanterns have not burned that long, have they?
