Nobody has ever explained whether a sworn brother can ever truly leave the Watch behind

Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether a sworn brother can ever truly leave the Watch behind. I can see a reading where everyone is a little bit right.

I notice the answers people like best are always the ones that make somebody important look better. That is not proof of anything, but it is a pattern.

That is all I have, and it took me years to gather.
