I Named My Keep Cat Millwheel; It Fits

I may have this wrong, but what happened just before Millwheel earned her name? I named my keep cat after she sat beside the storehouse wheel and watched it turn, intent as a clerk over a grain tally. The name seemed larger than the creature.

Now she naps on the ledger shelf while the wheel turns below, and I have stopped correcting the fit. A name can begin as a joke and become a record of where you found the animal; the cat has kept her post more reliably than the tally.

What did you try first when a pet’s name stopped matching the pet? I still think of the wheel when I call her, though she answers only when she has finished ignoring me.
