Opening post by Lord Halys Redfort · #1
I expected leaving Stonewatch to be a matter of men and mules. I went with three mules and forty-two men; the chapel bell stayed behind because its rope had frozen to the tower. That is the part I remember.
The Last Kingdom gets the daily weight of a ration right. You can swear an oath, but you still have to eat, and a commander who cannot share the sentries’ ration has no business giving orders. The bell was the cost I could not carry.
