Build Order & Priorities

Quick answers

Is Iron Realms free to play?
Yes. Iron Realms is free to play in any browser with no download and no account required. Every building, troop tier and Seat of Power is reachable without spending money — purchases buy speed and cosmetics, never a higher ceiling.
Does spending money make you stronger in Iron Realms?
No. Nothing purchasable raises your power ceiling. A charter audit runs on every build and fails it if any offer would sell power. Spending compresses time: the summit takes about 24 months free, or 18 months with the $9.99 monthly Charter held throughout.
How long does it take to max a keep in Iron Realms?
About 24 months of free play at roughly half an hour a day, or 18 months with the $9.99 Warden's Charter. Keeps cap at level 45 and troops at tier 13 — the same summit for everyone.

There is no single perfect build order — but there is a clear logic, and it starts with one rule that governs everything.

The master rule: the keep gates everything

Nearly every building can only rise as high as your keep. So the keep is almost always your highest-value upgrade: raising it lifts the ceiling on your whole city at once. The classic mistake is pouring resources into a single building while the keep — and therefore every other cap — sits still.

The opening (first days)

  1. Keep, then the resource four. Alternate keep upgrades with your Farm, Sawmill, Quarry, and Mine so income funds the next keep level.
  2. Barracks early. You need troops to clear camps and rebel holdfasts, which pay in resources and commander experience — fuelling faster growth.
  3. Academy as soon as you can. Research compounds: the sooner you start the Agriculture line, the more total resource it earns you over the whole game.
  4. Push to Keep 15. The second Farm/Sawmill/Quarry/Mine plots roughly double your economy — a huge inflection point. Treat Keep 15 as your first real goal.
A hard-charging opening reaches Keep 19 in about two days. You do not need to spend to do it — you need to keep a builder busy and clear camps for the extra resources.

The midgame

Never waste a builder

The single biggest free speed-up is simply never leaving a build slot idle. Turn on Auto-queue upgrades in the Keep panel so a slot fills the moment one frees — especially overnight. Over months, an always-busy builder is worth more than any single purchase.

The endgame is endless

Past the caps, Prestige keeps key buildings climbing and Ascension raises the whole realm's ceiling — so there is always a next rung. See The Keep & Buildings.
