The Iron Bank
Quick answers
- Is Iron Realms free to play?
- Yes. Iron Realms is free to play in any browser with no download and no account required. Every building, troop tier and Seat of Power is reachable without spending money — purchases buy speed and cosmetics, never a higher ceiling.
- Does spending money make you stronger in Iron Realms?
- No. Nothing purchasable raises your power ceiling. A charter audit runs on every build and fails it if any offer would sell power. During the pre-alpha nothing is for sale at all — better than that, the store gives its goods away: everything in it is free to take, once a day per item, while the realm is being built. When payments do open, spending will compress time only: it clears timers, it never raises the summit.
- How long does it take to max a keep in Iron Realms?
- Keeps cap at level 45 and troops at tier 13 — the same summit for everyone, and it is a campaign: about seven months of steady play at half an hour a day, counting keep 45 and the nineteen plots that gate it. The Fair Play ledger inside the game reads that figure straight out of the shipped constants, so it is never a month behind the build.

“The Iron Bank will have its due.” When a chance is too good to wait for, the Ironvault lends — resources now, repaid with interest later. Used well, a loan turns a fleeting opportunity into a permanent gain. Used badly, the ledger bleeds you dry.
The terms, exactly
There is no fine print here, because there are only two numbers:
- Interest: 20%. Borrow 100,000 stone and you owe 120,000.
- Term: one hour. That is the window in which the loan is meant to do its work.
Twenty percent over an hour is expensive money by any standard, and it is supposed to be. The Ironvault is not a resource tap — it is a timing instrument. The only question worth asking before you sign is whether the thing you are borrowing for gets you more than 20% ahead within the hour.
When leverage pays
- Finishing a build you are minutes short on, when the next upgrade unlocks a production multiplier that runs forever. A permanent gain against a one-off 20% is the clearest yes in the game.
- Fielding a war host for a rally you cannot miss — a Seat of Power only comes open inside its war window, and 20% is cheap against a seat that pays tribute every hour thereafter.
- Rushing a key building before an event opens, where the event's scoring pays back more than the debt.
When it does not
- Borrowing to top up a hoard you are not about to spend. Idle borrowed resources are just a 20% fee for storage.
- Borrowing to train troops you have no target for. Swords do not appreciate.
- Borrowing twice in a row to service the first loan. That is the road down, and no game mechanic will stop you walking it.
